A Sacred Journey

7 Reasons Why Uncertainty is Good for Your Journey

While we might prefer to set out on our journeys both abroad and in everyday life with our destination in sight, sometimes life has other plans.

Disruptions in our journeys can lead to disorientation and uncertainty, but that doesn’t mean that our journeys must be placed on hold. In fact, not knowing where we’re headed often allows more space for the Sacred Guide to enter in. Here are 7 reasons why uncertainty is actually good for your journey:

1. it invites you to pause

Whether we’re journeying at home or abroad, so often when we have a goal or destination in mind we can place ourselves on autopilot. Disruptions in our journeys invite us to pause and be present with the circumstances at hand.

2. it encourages surrender

Once we’re able to become present, we’re better able to realize our own attachments when it comes to our journeys and notice the places where we need to more fully surrender to the guidance of the Divine.

3. it clears the path

When we’re able to surrender our attachments in lieu of the direction of the Sacred Guide, it clears the path ahead.

4. it creates an opening

With the path clear, an opening is created as we begin practice curiosity and engage our journeys in new ways.

5. it slows you down

When we place our own agendas to the side, we’re able to slow the pace and take things step-by-step. As the popular quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson goes, “Life is a journey, not a destination.”

6. it makes room for growth

When our pace is slowed and our attention shifts from our journey’s destination to the task at hand, we’re more likely to be stretched, which makes room for growth.

7. it offers new possibilities

Finally, just as uncertainty makes room for growth, it also offers new possibilities. When we’re able to allow for uncertainty and trust the direction of the Sacred Guide, our journeys often take us to places beyond what we ever could have imagined.
